Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
