How to find the best vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best rental home:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Patty's Hollow: Charming Ocracoke cottage across from Zillie's. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your trip.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke destination you crave, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
