Tips to get the optimal Ocracoke rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Ocracoke area. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Lela's: Located on historic Howard St. Large Porch. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke destination you love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
