Getting the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the perfect vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Select your vacation week and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Potter's Place: Cozy home Just a short walk to the Ocracoke Lighthouse. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, email the host before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
