Rental booking tips:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- To book the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Ocracoke restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and choosing the best Ocracoke rental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Salty Escape: Beautiful Condo in the Heart of Ocracoke Village has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If not, call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
