Booking the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your search:
- To start, have your group agree to trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Pirate's Quay 2 North: Enjoy watching the ferries in Silver Lake Harbor has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
