Ocracoke rental home booking tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. To get the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

How to choose the perfect rental home in Ocracoke:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Heaven on Ocracoke: Expansive views of the harbor has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If not, email the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
