Finding the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning and picking your prefect Ocracoke vacation home:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Tight Lines: Unique dog friendly home has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
