Tips for getting the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the perfect rental home in Ocracoke:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Tight Lines: Unique dog friendly home has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
