Finding the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing and booking yourrental:

  • Start by having your group select the best dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. SeaClusion I: Two-story vacation rental duplex has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
