Booking the best rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Ocracoke vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. SeaClusion I: Two-story vacation rental duplex has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Have a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
