Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking the best Ocracoke rental:
- To start, have your group decide on trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Sound Breeze: Contemporary canal front, screened porch, decks. has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
Tips for a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. text the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
