Getting the best vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Brush Stroke: Nicely decorated dog friendly with marsh views. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your family.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. message the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
