Strategies to get the optimal Ocracoke rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer is high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the best rental:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Pirate's Quay 1 North: Enjoy watching the ferries in Silver Lake Harbor has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke destination you love, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
