How to find the best vacation property experience:
When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:
- Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestvacation home:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. June: Lighthouse view from screened porch, overlooking marsh. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is best for your trip.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
