How to book the best vacation home experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Ocracoke. To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to choose the perfect vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Someplace Else: Cheerfully decorated island home with marsh views. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your group.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Tips to have a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
