Tips and Tricks for getting the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to pick the perfect rental home in Ocracoke:

  • Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Recently Remodeled-New for 2025-Pet Friendly has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
