Strategies to get the perfect Ocracoke rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Recently Remodeled-New for 2025-Pet Friendly has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
During your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
