Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. To book the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Ocracoke restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review.
