Strategies to get the very best Ocracoke rental home experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • To book the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Ocracoke restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Contentment: Spacious home, den, screened porch, marsh views. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke destination you crave, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
