Finding the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • To find the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to choose the best rental home:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Sandalwood, on the best beach in America???????????\n has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
