Tips to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. We Still Do: Beautiful home on the canal in Oyster Creek with boat docking. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
