Tips to get the best rental home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Book your Ocracoke vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental in Ocracoke:

  • To start, have your family decide on the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. We Still Do: Beautiful home on the canal in Oyster Creek with boat docking. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
