Ocracoke rental booking tips:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking your prefect Ocracoke rental home:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Follow The Heron: Fantastic home with lots of decks. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, email the host before you book your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
