Strategies to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, change your family's Ocracoke vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting and booking yourrental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. La Vie En Rose: Spacious dog friendly home, convenient location has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
