Tips and Tricks to get the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Planning and picking your Ocracoke rental home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Pet Friendly 4 Bedroom Beach House that's close to everything has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
