Strategies for getting the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- To start, have your group commit to dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Morningside: Large Ocracoke home with amazing views from rooftop deck has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips for your stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
