Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your Ocracoke vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and pick your prefectvacation home:

  • Choose your dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. No Fools No Fun: Private pool with a wonderfully landscaped yard. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke attraction you simply love, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
