Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best rental within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and choosing the perfect Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Gray Whale: Within walking distance of the harbor, shops and restaurants. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
