Tips for getting the perfect rental home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Book your Ocracoke rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • To start, have your family commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Old Pamlico Inn Site: Large waterfront home with dock, amazing views has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke attraction you are enamored with, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
