Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:

When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and pick the perfectrental:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Old Pamlico Inn Site: Large waterfront home with dock, amazing views has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If not, email the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. text the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
