How to book the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Out Of The Blue: Soundfront, spectacular sunsets, private boat dock. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you simply love, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
