Strategies for getting the best vacation home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • To book the best rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to select the best vacation home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Select your vacation dates and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sutton Place: Large yard perfect for outdoor activities. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
