Strategies to get the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your Ocracoke vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose the right Ocracoke rental:
- First and foremost, have your group choose date ranges and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Cottage, great for a couple or small family. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you long to visit, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
