Strategies to get the perfect rental home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Book your Ocracoke rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Back House: Quaint two bedroom Ocracoke Island cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your stay, note any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
