Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. To get the best rental within your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.

Choosing the best rental home:

  • Select dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Sound Advice: Soundfront with panoramic views of colorful sunsets. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke attraction you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. text the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
