Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking the bestvacation home:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Moonraker's Attic: Dog Friendly Studio at Spencer's Market has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
