Ocracoke rental home booking tips:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the perfect rental:

  • To start, have your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. It's Five O'Clock Here: Lovely spacious home that is perfect for families. has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke destination you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
