Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Stromayer Cottage: Enjoy this cabin like home, simplistic design. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
