Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, selecting, and booking your Ocracoke rental:
- Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Breeze - Beautiful home tucked away on a quiet street in Wehab Village has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is right for your family.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
