Tricks and tips to get the very best Ocracoke rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectrental:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Harbor II: Pet friendly, views of both the Lighthouse and Silver Lake. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a great stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
