Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking the rightvacation home:

  • Begin by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Cozy Island Cottage, centrally located in the Heart of the Village has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
