Tips to get the optimal Ocracoke rental home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the perfect rental in the Ocracoke area:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Cozy Island Cottage, centrally located in the Heart of the Village has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
