Our top Rental property booking tips:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Captain Reid's Devereux: Great getaway for two has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
