Tips to get the optimal Ocracoke rental experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. To find the best value, change your family's Ocracoke vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.
How to select the perfect vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. WV63: Second Sail-Newly Remodeled and Spacious has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
