Ocracoke rental property booking tips:

Finding the best value:

  • Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beyond Buxton: Dog friendly, casual comfort, decks, marsh views. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a terrific stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the host right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
