Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke rental home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your Ocracoke vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Exiled on Main Street: Large Pet-friendly home has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you long to visit, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
