Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Ocracoke rental home experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. To find the best rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and choosing the right Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Exiled on Main Street: Large Pet-friendly home has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or may be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
