How to find the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Still Point: Luxurious, spacious, exceptional waterfront home. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
