How to find the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Ocracoke rental:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Last Clear Chance: Spectacular spacious home, pool table has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. text the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
