Tricks and tips for getting the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the perfect rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Spindrift: Spacious dog friendly canal front home, dock, decks, views has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
