Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose the perfect vacation home:
- To start, have your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautiful Canalfront Cottage, Perfect for Couples! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
