Booking the best vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. The Marina House: Pet friendly near harbor with off-site pool privileges has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • During arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
