Tips to get the very best vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the largest rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Birdland: Private tiny house with marsh views and kayak access has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
