Tips for getting the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • To find the most suitable rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking a perfect Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Unique, Romantic, Cozy, Island Cottage on #1 Beach in America has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.

Tips for your stay:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
