Getting the best vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- To get the best value, try changing your family's Ocracoke trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose a perfect Ocracoke vacation home:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Unique, Romantic, Cozy, Island Cottage on #1 Beach in America has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before booking the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
