Rental property booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the perfect rental in Ocracoke:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Down Point Hideaway: Boho chic 1 bedroom home just steps from Springer's Point - has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you are crazy about, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Additional considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. text the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
