Tricks and tips for getting the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to select the perfect vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Down Point Hideaway: Boho chic 1 bedroom home just steps from Springer's Point - has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you simply love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
