Strategies to get the optimal Ocracoke rental home experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Summer is high season in Ocracoke. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the perfect vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Corinne's Upstairs: Suite with great views of Silver Lake Harbor. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is suitable for your trip.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
